ARTISTS BIO
I have been a naturally gifted artist and musician all my life and have enjoyed a wonderfully eclectic lifestyle combining and balancing the two. Being a dreamer as well has made it difficult for me to commit to any long term, formal training or education in either music or fine art so I'm mostly self taught. However, I have taken some private instruction over the last ten years or so with a local, Victoria artist, Bill Porteous. He opened me up to alot of interesting techniques and showed me the joy of abstract art as well as the pure bliss that can be obtained by totally letting go and merging into the creative moment without expectation. I met Bill back in 1991, when I attended the Victoria College of Art for a six-week immersion course, he was teaching the drawing portion of the course.
Alot of my creative development has been fuelled by my own personal explorations and journeys into self awareness where I've felt the desire to express and chart my evolution and growth as a human being, sharing and mapping my personal process.
If I had to come up with a personal philosophy for being an artist it would be that I need to follow my heart and my spirit, whether light or dark and continue to make manifest as many visions and creative ideas as I can, trusting that it is all part of a greater whole.
I have a favourite passage from the book "The Prophet", by Kahlil Gibran where his main character states..." and if there come the singers and the dancers and the flute players, buy of their gifts also, for they too are gatherers of fruit and frankincense, and that which they bring, though fashioned of dreams, is raiment and food for your soul".
